Maangi who made the remarks while addressing a group of youths at Kisii county hall early today said the usage of social media in the county was on the rise and there is a need to ensure they use it for the good purpose.

He said the bulk of the youth in the county were very active in social network sites even during hours when they were supposed to be engaged in self-development activities.

“Several of you are active on social network sites which is fine. But how do you get work is done if you are permanently fixated to the sites and you are posting things in the course of the day?” he posed amidst laughter from the youth.

He stated that social networks had become an integral part of modern work but called for restraint and moderation in their use.

His warning comes barely hours after the government through Director Digital Communication in the Office of the President, Dennis Itumbi announced that from next month it will come up with guidelines to check and ensure responsible use of social media.
