The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday arrested Kiembeni Deputy OCS John Shikondi, who was accused of demanding for a bribe before he could authorize the release of a man arrested by the police.
The officer is alleged to have demanded Sh8, 000 from the family of the man who was arrested, who in turn tipped off the EACC officers.
The man, who is an activist in Mombasa was in the hands of the police,
The EACC officers then set up a trap to nab Shikondi, which saw him meet the contact person who was to give him the said cash at the Billionaire’s club in Mombasa.
The officers then did an inventory of the marked notes that they had as evidence, arresting and whisking the deputy OCS away.
“The suspect is now in custody at Port Police station and will be released on cash bail pending an appearance in court, we are going to conduct further investigation to establish others who are connected with such offense,” said an officer at the EACC.
He added: “We believe this is a corrupt cartel and we will bring it down,”
Residents thanked the commission for stepping in to apprehend the officer, saying such cases have been rampant.
