Deputy president urges women to join cooperatives

Deputy President William Ruto has urged women to form cooperatives and self-help groups for them to be empowered financially.

“This will help them benefit from national and county governments subsidy loans geared towards empowerment which is only given to those in groups,” he said after presenting 20,400 chicks to 5,000 women poultry farmers in Uasin Gishu to start viable enterprises at Sugoi, Friday.

“Through joining groups they will be able to aggregate value, boost earnings, ensure daily subsistence and start businesses that will help them earn a living and independent,” he added.

He, however, advised them to put to good use the money they have loaned since at the end of the day they will have to repay the amount with an interest.

“You should start projects that will generate income instead of using it for luxurious means. They should also embrace table banking which will help them eradicate poverty.

He called upon drivers to drive safely especially during this festive season.

“We are not happy with the way Kenyans are losing their lives through road accidents, drivers should be careful since they are carrying people and not goods,” noted the deputy president.
