A Kisii based financial expert Charles Nyanibane, has called upon the youth to desist from the vice and engage in constructive activities that will yield profits.

He, however, blamed the school curriculum on not focusing on offering financial education.

“Most people even the old have little financial knowledge and skills. You are never taught how to spend money after school. That is what makes the difference between the rich and the poor,” he said.

Nyanibane said most people do not know the difference between liabilities and assets.

He termed the betting sites as a liabilities that the youths fail to see.

He added that the youth should adopt a financial discipline culture that will see them learn the importance of saving even the little money they have.

“It is not the amount of money one has but how one manages it. You find our youth today toiling the whole day to earn Sh100, places a bet with all of it and the money is gone," said Nyanibane.

"It is high time the youth and the gamblers woke up from that false dream of being a millionaire through betting,” he said.

He urged the youth to save and focus on constructive activities such as entrepreneurship that will offer a constant and reliable supply of income.
