Barely a day after being granted bail by the court over alleged insult on President Uhuru Kenyatta, Embakasi East Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino is facing fresh charges in court.
The outspoken legislator was re-arrested on Wednesday moments after his release and taken to Pangani police station.
The prosecution has released new charges in which Owino is accused of assaulting a member of the public on the eve of Election Day.
“On August 8th 2017, at Soweto Hall in Kayole Sub County, within Nairobi County in the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before the court unlawfully did grievous harm to Joshua Otieno,” reads the new charge sheet.
On Wednesday, Owino had claimed that the state is keen to have him lose parliament sessions for eight consecutive terms, a move that could lead to inevitable loss of his seat.
Lawyers Otiende Amollo and Nelson Havi are representing him in Kibra Law Courts where they want him released on bail.
