[Photo|Nasa coalition]Raila Odinga's National Super Alliance (Nasa) has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi over President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet appointments.Uhuru is expected to unveil his Cabinet before Christmas especially after reports said he asked current cabinet secretaries to prepare handover reports.Through National Assembly Minority Leader and ODM Chairman John Mbadi, NASA's letter to Muturi dissociated itself from vetting of new cabinet nominees that Uhuru will unveil, saying NASA does not recognise Kenyatta as a legitimate leader. This is due to the controversial October 26 fresh presidential election which NASA boycotted only for Uhuru to be declared winner.Mbadi said the office of the appointing authority for cabinet secretaries was therefore vacant, hence no need to constitute the Committee on Appointments and that NASA would not propose names of members to take part in the vetting process."As you are aware and is clearly spelt out in standing order 204(1), the only responsibility of the committee on appointment is to consider for approval by the House, appointments under Article 152(2) of the constitution. This requirement presupposes and anticipates the naming of cabinet secretaries by the appointing authority," said Mbadi in the letter."In view of the above, I wish to remind you that the office of the appointing authority for cabinet secretaries is vacant hence no need to constitute the Committee on Appointments," he adds. The Committee on Appointments is chaired by Muturi.NASA's letter comes days after their Maanzoni Lodge deliberation where they vowed not to Uhuru's cabinet nominees.
