The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Tuesday held a meeting with Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o at the County Chief's office.
While confirming the details of the meeting, the polls agency in a tweet noted that Chebukati visited Prof. Nyong'o to brief him on the post election evaluation and county stakeholder engagement.
During the discussion, the governor asked the IEBC to carry out voter education and public engagement long before the polls.
"Kisumu Governor @AnyangNyongo urges the IEBC to do voter education and public engagement, early, long before the polls, especially on electoral system and boundary delimitation. @WChebukati assures the ongoing review on polls will involve stakeholders & inform reforms and strategy," IEBC posted on its Twitter handle.
Chebukati has been under fire from NASA-allied politicians amid claims that he bungled the 2017 presidential election which it's candidate Raila Odinga lost before successfully challenging in the Supreme Court.
Odinga, however, boycotted the repeat poll which was won by President Uhuru Kenyatta. So, the meeting between Prof. Nyong'o and Chebukati could be a sign that they have buried the hatchet.
