Speaking after meeting representatives of HealthShare from South Africa who have extensive experience in delivering services for advanced hospital management, the Governor explained that they discussed how to form a partnership between the experts and the county.

"The agenda is to partner with them to improve quality of healthcare and cost of care in our referral hospitals e.g. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital and Kisumu County Hospital," Nyong'o stated.

In a proposal to the County Government of Kisumu, HealthShare Managing Director Dr. Antony De Coita indicated that proper hospital management systems will create improvement in the areas of training, equipment, hospital systems, case management to reduce bed occupancy as well as improve on quality and efficiency of healthcare offerings such as Oncology.

The process will begin by carrying out a Baseline Assessment and Gap Analysis of Selected Facilities, and then in priority order based on the results of the baseline survey, identify corrective measures and ways of improvement.

The Executive Chairman Frank Sullivan also added his voice by mentioning that the systems will include all the aspects that a hospital requires to function at its optimal level for quality healthcare.

After their presentation, the Governor said the partnership has come at an appropriate time as far as the implementation of Universal Health Care is concerned.

He also proposed to the team to include Filter Clinics that will help reduce costs and ease congestion.

The CEC Health Dr. Rosemary Obara welcomed the move to partner and learn by first acknowledging that indeed there are problems with the system and there is urgent need to reengineer especially in the areas of operation.

She was quick to add that the System Approach will go a long way in identifying areas to strengthen as well as aid in rating performance in all segments.

The Governor challenged the management at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital to have an Emergency and Accident Centre to ensure improved services.
