Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o on Tuesday hosted a delegation from the World Bank led by Madam Sarah Ruth Ochieng', Senior Private Sector Specialist.

The Governor urged the team to put into consideration reviving cotton farming in Kisumu and investment in the fishing industry. 

According to Prof Nyong'o, reviving the cotton industry  will go along way in revolutionizing the county's economy. 

He further noted that investment in the fishing industry will see fibre boats manufacturing initiated across the region thus opening up lake transport. 

"Maritime trade across the lake will open up markets across the East African countries with an estimated population of three hundred and fifty million people," Nyong'o stated.

The Governor lauded the Kenya Ports Authority for putting up a Marine Institute in the county, adding that such cooperation will enhance jobs creation in the county thus raising the living standards of the people of Kisumu county.

Madam Sarah Ruth on her part said that the World Bank is committed to support such initiatives as this is one of the ways of uplifting the lives of Kenyans.

Present in the meeting was Nerry Achar, CEC Finance, Alice Moraa CEC Trade, Business and Industry, Nixon Obungu CEC Lands and Physical Planning and George Omondi ,Governor's economic adviser.
