President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday met the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Ahmed Hussen and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

The meeting took place at Harambee House in Nairobi.

Kenyatta said that the Government of Canada looked to boost its trade with Kenya, especially in the mining, oil and gas sectors.

The Head of State announced that Canada will soon roll out a $6 million grant to help people affected by drought in areas hosting refugees in Kenya.

 Canada will also support Kenyan initiative to host a major conference on the Oceans.

The president disclosed that boosting the Kenyan ‘blue economy’ was one of the four main agendas that featured in during the conversation.

“Boosting Kenya's blue economy features prominently in our big four growth agenda that includes enhancing job creation and opportunities for young people by focusing on the expansion of the manufacturing sector,” said Kenyatta in a tweet.

The other pillars of the big four  agendas discussed include: improving the quality of life through provision of universal health care, increasing access to affordable housing and ensuring food and nutritional security.
