To start with, Ruto's foot soldier Kipchumba Murkomen has been complaining that Gideon Moi, Mzee's youngest son, has been a stumbling block to the DP's camp when it comes to visiting his father.

On Thursday, Ruto hatched a plan to make sure that he meets the ailing mzee and have a tete-a-tete.

Ruto decided to fly to Kabarak incognito. He dropped the usual trappings of power that are assocaited with his position as a Deputy President. He boarded a Kenya Pipeline Company helicopter.

The DP also was not in the company of his usual handlers. He wanted the visit to be as private as possible.

Ruto was not accompanied by his political soldiers; the likes of Murkomen and Aden Duale, and instead decided to have Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut and lawyer Stephen Kipkenda only.

Sources said Ruto was banking on Chepkut and Kipkenda who are said to be in good books with the Moi's.

But despite these efforts, the delegation was not allowed to meet Moi.

A statement by the Moi's said that Mzee was undergoing medical sessions with his doctors and could not meet the DP.

They promised to organise a meeting for the two 'in the near future'.

Pundits trace the 'embarrasing development' to the political duel between Gideon Moi and William Ruto after both trained their guns on the presidency.

"That was an embarrasing moment for Ruto bearing in mind that he is the Deputy President. What was that that made Moi's handlers not to create even a five minutes chat for the two for just photos?" Winfred Mburu said.

Mburu said Gideon is using any available opportunity to settle political scores with the DP.
