President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Omar Hassan al-Bashir on Saturday night held bilateral talks at the Presidential Palace in Khartoum where regional security and bilateral trade was top on the agenda.
President Kenyatta, held two meetings with his Sudanese counterpart.
The first meeting was a one-on-one between the two presidents while the other was attended by the Presidents’ delegations.
In their meetings, the two leaders discussed the need to do more to ensure stability in South Sudan and Somalia.
The two also agreed to expand trade and cooperation between the two nations.
President Kenyatta said Kenya is willing to invite Sudanese nationals to explore opportunities in Tourism and hospitality, finance and banking sector, and investment opportunities.
Kenyatta added that his visit is aimed at increasing trade between the two nations and also includes the objective to open up trade routes to Chad through the Sudan Port.
He said Kenya wishes to have a direct road link with Khartoum to maximize trade benefits .
“Kenya is working on improving the road from Kitale – Lodwar and into S. Sudan and it would be ideal if the road was able to connect to Khartoum,” said Uhuru.
The two leaders also discussed the leadership of the African Union with President Bashir pledging to back Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed to head the AU.
