The Supreme Court has established that the NASA presidential petition challenging President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta re-election will begin on Saturday, 26 August at 7:00 pm.
Looking at it critically it's interesting to note the timing of the crucial pretrial hearing which will determine what will be accommodated during the hearing of the petition.
However, reliable sources have revealed that starting the pre-trial hearing at 7 pm may be a move to try and accommodate Chief Justice David Maraga who is a Seventh-Day Adventist(SDA).
According to the SDAs, the Sabbath begins on Friday sunset and ends on Saturday sunset, so the timing may be a way of ensuring Maraga attends to his divine duties as an Adventist before embarking on the crucial petition.
Remember, during the interview for the position, Maraga insisted that he cannot work on a sabbath, which is the official resting day for the Adventists, meaning he can't compromise on his day of worship.
"It will be very hard for me to sit on a Saturday and listen to a case. I would rather talk to my colleagues in court to accommodate me and exempt me from sitting if the hearing extended to Saturday," Maraga said during the interview.
