The head of state has advised Garissa governor Nathif Jama to take advantage of the current security stability in the county as well as the sufficient electricity supply so as to develop the county.
President Kenyatta was speaking in Garissa when he finished his three-day visit to North Eastern region in the weekend. Kenyatta commissioned a host of development projects in the area including the Kindaruma-Mwingi Garissa electricity project.
He said that at least three billion shillings were pumped into the project, terming it ‘cheap’ since it is renewable.
Engineer John Mutivo, from the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company, said that the substation produced more than enough megawatts of electricity since the area only required 6.5 MW out of the 80 MW produced.
President Kenyatta further called for cooperation of the locals with security officers so as to maintain peace, saying that development is only possible when there is peace and unity.
He further promised that plans are underway to further extend the Garsen-Hola-Garissa line of the power supply so as to supply enough power to the lapset project.
The head of State was accompanied by His deputy William Ruto.
