According to Mugo there is need for school heads and boards to fully involve their students in policy formulation and implementation.

The educationist said that students often get frustrated when rules and policies are imposed on them without their engagement.

“School heads and boards ought to engage students in policy making if we want to curb cases of strikes in our schools ,” he said.

The educationist also said that regular guiding and counseling is key to quelling strikes.

He asked  the Ministry of Education to develop guidelines that will ensure students are involved in school administration matters.

“We will continue to experience such chaos and destruction of property in schools if the government through the Ministry of Education does not formulate proper policies to govern schools,” he said.

On Monday, Education CS Fred Matiang’i warned that the government will not tolerate acts of indiscipline in schools.

The Cabinet Secretary who visited Itierio Boys High School where students torched seven dormitories on Saturday night asked school heads and sub county education directors to ensure that discipline is exercised in schools.

The CS also warned that students who engaged in indiscipline acts will not be allowed to transfer to other schools.

Cases of students rioting and destroying property in some schools across the country has been rife in the recent past.
