The government should develop a manual list for public procurement in a bid of eliminating corruption in tendering process, says Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) Policy Research and analysis manager Victor Ogalo.
Ogalo said Kepsa is cautious about effects of corruption in the country especially in public procurement within national and county governments.
“There should be a manual list of prices for public procurement in county and national governments, it is unbelievable that a pen can be bought at Sh100 in government procurement,” said Ogalo.
He addressed the press during the Launch of Business Ethics and Integrity Training workshop at a hotel in Machakos County on Thursday.
The training organized by KEPSA in partnership with Centre for International Private Enterprises (CIPE) has brought together participants from 14 countries across the world.
Ogalo said the government should promote businesses that have signed code of ethics and ignore those marred with corruption issues.
He said Kepsa had spearheaded integrity reforms in private and public sectors by reducing human contacts during procurement through technology thereby limiting corruption.
Ogalo said technology promotes transparency and offers level play grounds in tendering of private and public sectors businesses.
He said corruption is a culture that cannot be changed overnight, it is a gradual process to eliminate for integrity and sanity to be achieved.
Ogalo said all government projects must be audited for the public to get value of their taxes.
“All public projects must be edited whether in national or county governments. It is not meant for witch hunt, the purpose for auditing is to identify points of weaknesses for improvement. For every tax we pay, we want value,” added Ogalo.
