Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange has disapproved any attempt to devolve education saying that the move would lower education standards in the country.
Speaking on Thursday morning in Kiambaa during a meeting with bodaboda operators, Koinange said those proposing the idea are ill informed.
“I am not for the idea of taking education to the county governments,” Koinange said. He added: "Education is a symbol of national unity as it holds us together.
Devolving education is killing Kenya's dream of being a one nation and one people,” Koinange added.
The MP further noted that devolving education would turn pupils and students into 'slaves' of their respective counties.
“In devolved system of education, learners will only be taught about their county's culture and tribes and not the national values. This will lead to tribalism getting entrenched even more,” he said.
Koinange advised that having a permanent solution to the problem facing the education sector is the way to go rather than seeking diversionary tactics.
