School going children aged 2 – 14 years across Kisii County will be given deworming drugs starting Wednesday February 28, 2018.
Jane Bota, the education official said learners in both private and public schools are targeted in the program.
“Teachers have been trained on how they will administer the deworming drugs among the children aged 2 – 14 years in schools. The exercise is aimed at improving the health status of children,” she said.
She called on parents not to allow their children stay at home and miss the deworming drugs in the process.
“Parents are advised to ensure children attend school to receive the drugs for the good of their health. There is nothing bad parents should fear about the exercise,” she added.
Director of public health in Kisii County Geoffrey Otomu said since the deworming exercise started in the region, the number of those seeking deworming drugs at Kisii Referral 6 hospital has dropped.
“Hand wash method of cleanliness has been introduced in most schools and this has reduced worm infections. Locals should prepare their food well so kill any germs before consumption,” he said.
