The managements of learning institutions have been urged to embrace transparency and dialogue in handling issues that lead to students' unrest.

Speaking on Tuesday at Kisii University renowned academician Prof Chacha Nyaigotu blamed the impasse witnessed in various institutions on poor management and rigidity of managements to embrace dialogue.

Prof Chacha urged institutions to address issues raised by students promptly to avert regular disruption of studies as witnessed in various institutions.

“Sometimes I feel the management of our institutions has failed beyond a doubt. Good management entails listening to grievances and settling on a common ground. I have been touched by the rate at which our institutions go on strike sabotaging delivery of quality education,” he said.

According to him, increase in fees has been a major issue while appealing to the Commission for University Education (CUE) to set fixed rates that will apply countrywide.

“The payment of school fee differs from one institution to another. The Commission for University Education should come with a common figure that will apply to all institutions of higher learning. I bet that will drastically reduce the impasse we normally witness,” he added.

On Tuesday, students at the Kenya Medical Training College in Nyamira took to the streets to protest against poor sanitation and shortage of hostels.
