Part of money stolen from Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor Eliud Mate has reportedly been recovered by detectives investigating the theft.
A man alleged to be sent by Constable Josphat Kipyegon, Mate's bodyguard, was busted by authorities after depositing Sh1.4m and this raised eyebrows from the authorities.
“We found the man whom he sent to deposit the money on his behalf. He confessed that he was sent by the officer and we are currently also holding him,” said an officer undertaking the investigation.
It was also discovered that a Mount Kenya University student from Thika Campus Rose Kajira was accused of ferrying the money from the bodyguard to the man.
A day after Mate alleging that the Administration Police had stolen his Sh3.5, the officer handed himself to the authorities
All the suspects are currently held Meru Police Station awaiting an appearance in court on Monday, October 15.
