Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Tuesday dismissed claims that he was engaging in drug peddling business moments after DP William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta waged a war against drug peddlers.
Joho, who is not a stranger to controversy, instead accused the Jubilee Party principals of plotting to lock him out of August elections.
But Mr. Joho's claimed that President Kenyatta should clean his house first before targeting him in the fight against drugs.
"Safisha Nyumba yenu kwanza (clean your house first," Joho repeated in Kiswahili. "I find it unfortunate that they can use this war just to get votes," he added.
However, Joho denied being probed on drug tracking adding that he was exonerated back in 2013 when he was contesting for county seat.
"The narrative that I am a drug peddler was peddled in 2013 to deny me a chance to vie. We are seeing the same narrative being driven now," he added.
His remarks could as well associate people close to president in the drug trafficking business.
Recently, Nairobi senator Mike Mbuvi, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta also dismissed claims that he was involved in drug trafficking.
