When President Uhuru Kenyatta re-opened the Mtongwe ferry after a 23-year collapse, Likoni MP Masuod Mwahima made an uncharacteristic public appearance in his own constituency.

Since decamping from ODM to Jubilee in January 2016, the lawmaker has avoided his own political turf, a region he has reigned for the last one decade.

This comes even as the residents and his political rivals accuse him of auctioning the constituency even as the Waitiki land question seems to be haunting him politically.

However, on Monday, the lawmaker emerged from his shadows and even got an opportunity to address the gathering during the launch of the Mtongwe ferry that was presided over by the President.

The moment may prove to be the turning point in his political career that seems to have hit rock bottom even as he strives to fight off stiff competition from his rivals who are keen to unseat him.

In his speech, Mwahima said the revival of the Mtongwe ferry was his effort having engaged the central government. He also used the opportunity to pitch for his reelection, and take a swipe at his competitors who he claimed have nothing to offer to the people of Likoni.

As to whether Mwahima played a role in the revival of the Mtongwe ferry services remains everyone's guess. But politically, the lawmaker got the opportunity to turnaround his dwindling political fortunes with only five months remaining to the next poll.
