Tsvangirai, 65, died at a South African hospital on Wednesday after a battle with colon cancer.

The former prime minister was one of former President Robert Mugabe's worst critics.

In his condolence message, Dida noted that Africa had lost a true fighter for justice.

Dida, a former high school teacher and presidential candidate, added that Tsvangirai stood against the dictatorial leadership of Mugabe and was principled.

"Africa mourns another great hero, an icon of hope and a true fighter for justice. PM Morgan Tsvangirai stood up against the dictatorial leadership of president Mugabe," said Dida in a tweet on Thursday.

"He was principled and had strong unwavering stand. May he rest in peace," Dida added.
