Kiambu Constituency Member of Parliament Jude Njomo says the library will be equipped with all kinds of resources including books and computers fully installed with internet.

Speaking at a local radio station this morning, Njomo stated that in order to uplift the education standards in Kiambu County, facilities need to be put in place for the learners to access easily. He confirmed that the whole of Kiambu town has no library and people have a hard time trying to get information they require.

He said they will partner with well-wishers and the county government to make sure that the library is in place. He urged area residents to assist in equipping it with all kinds of books.

Njomo said: “There will be a plan with the community through churches and social groups to collect books that residents do not use. We will go house-to-house and ask them to contribute towards the noble cause.”

Kiambu County was ranked number 37 in last year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade of 26.9 a position it maintained in 2012's results.

It was number 31 with a mean grade of 244 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) dropping from number 27 in the previous year.

Kiambu town is the proposed county's headquarters and Njomo said it was a shame to see education officers in the region with no offices since the ones they are operating from are small and belong to the city council where they have been issued with a notice to vacate them.

The digital library will also serve as offices for the education ministry officials in the area.
