Venezuela Ambassador to Kenya Barzar Arismedy has challenged the Nakuru County government to deal with street children and maintain rural roads.
The diplomat also faulted the county authorities for lack of institutions of higher learning in rural areas, saying the scarcity of colleges in remote parts of Nakuru had led to rural-urban migration.
“I challenge the county government to set up institutions and facilities in rural areas. This will help diversify resources and reduce congestion in urban area,” the envoy said, when he visited former Subukia lawmaker Koigi wa Wamwere.
The ambassador added that Kenya and Venezuela share some traditions, problems, successes and culture.
Mt Kenya University Nakuru Campus don Tom Nyamache, who accompanied the diplomat, revealed that poor roads in rural areas have been the main problem hindering investors and universities from diversifying the education institutions in rural areas.
Nyamache revealed that the university has a plan to establish a campus in rural areas within Nakuru County to curb rural-urban migration in search of education.
After touring Kabazi, Subukia and Maili Sita, Arismedy said that Venezuela will partner with Nakuru County to raise the education standards in the county. He said his country will give 100 scholarships to Nakuru students every year.
