Speaking to the press in Kisumu town, the chairman of persons living with disabilities Antony Riako lamented that although many of their members registered under the program, only a few were receiving the monthly stipend of 2,000 shillings.

Riako complained that whereas the program listed 8,000 aged people to be cared for only 300 disabled people were registered; a figure he said was far below the number of people living with disability from the county.

“In Kondele for example 770 orphans were registered in contrast to only 10 disabled people who were enlisted in the area” he said.

“And in Kisumu Central and Kisumu East, 8,000 older person were registered yet only 300 disabled were registered.” said Riako.

The disabled now want the government to revise the figures and cater for more disabled people or else they will be forced to take to the streets.

“During registration we were given forms and they did not know that the elderly were given more application chances than the disabled” he said.
