Molo Chairman of PLWDs Mr John Mugo says that they honoured the directive by Nakuru County Commissioner to allow the county address the challenges affecting PLWDs.

“We have taken seriously the disabled census to ensure our challenges are addressed in accordance with the Constitution,” said Mugo.

Speaking today at Molo Town, Nakuru County, during registration of disabled persons, Mugo urged more PLWDs to register in large numbers.

“There is need for PLWDs to register in large numbers to allow the government tackle their challenges,” said Mugo.

Mugo urged the government to address the issue of education and recognise disabled persons by recruiting them in public offices.

“The issue of education among the disabled has not been addressed seriously because there has been limited number of schools for the disabled persons,” noted Mugo.

He also urged the government to increase the number of polytechnics that are specifically for PLWDs.

“Vocational training for the disabled should be increased by constructing more polytechnics to absorb more PLWDs,” said Mugo.

He further urged the government to increase allocation for the disabled to enable them cope with life.

He, however, said that he will not condone parents who have been hiding disabled children in homes for fear of stigmatisation.

“Hiding disabled children at home is infringement of their rights,” said Mugo.

Last Week Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik ordered a census of persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) in Nakuru County.
