Members of the Boni community known for their forest life, have been advised to embrace modernity.
Linda Boni security operation director Joseph Kanyiri and Lamu commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo said it is time for the community to accept changes in the modern society.
Kitiyo said the community should discard some beliefs and cultures and move on.
The Boni community are traditionally hunters, gatherers and honey harvesters.
The community was plunged into an uncertain future when Boni forest was declared a no go zone by the military to bomb the forest to flush out Al Shabaab militants suspected to be hiding in the forest bushes.
Director Kanyiri advised the community to take up formal education and modern farming in order to end poverty and other challenges facing them after they were ordered to move away from the Boni forest.
