A section of residents of Gesima ward in Kitutu Masaba have complained of condom shortage at Riakworo dispensary.
According to one of them, William Ochanda, the dispensary has not been equipped with contraceptives since December last year.
Speaking on Tuesday, Ochanda said that the facility has been of great help to residents especially on issues of reproductive health.
“I have come severally to this place to in search of condoms but there are none. The management needs to explain through a notice on what is going on,” said Ochanda.
He said many people from the region are vulnerable of contracting Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and HIV related diseases since they were unable to purchase contraceptives.
“This is quite dangerous as most people, especially the youth, depend on these donations from the government,” notes Ochanda.
However, the dispensary’s coordinator Jane Gitonga dismissed the claim but admitted the scarcity of condoms in the dispensary.
“Of course we have scarcity of condoms but it is not true that we have exhausted them. There are still some remaining and can be used for almost a month,” said Gitonga.
