Nakuru based political analyst and former TNA Chairman Dr. Abdul Noor said  the main cause of tribalism in Kenya is not the existence of tribal based political parties, but the skewed appointment of public officers in top positions as well as the uneven sharing of the national cake.

Speaking on Monday in an exclusive interview in Nakuru, Noor said having a single national party is just one way of fighting tribalism but it will not work if public appointments are not shared equally among all Kenyan tribes.

He said a sure way of uniting the country and ending tribalism is by ensuring that all tribes receive a fair share of the national cake.

Noor challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to stop focusing on two tribes when making public appointments.

“I don’t think having one single party will be the solution to tribalism in this country. The solution is to ensure that we consider each and every tribe when making public appointments and ensure that all Kenyan tribes have a fair share of the national cake,” said Noor.

“We cannot fight tribalism if all top public appointments are centered only on two major tribes because this sends a wrong message to other tribes,” he said.

He added: “The president and his deputy must ensure that top government jobs are not just concentrated in two major regions because this is what makes other tribes feel left out and that is not the way to go as a country”.
