The wife of slain Kenyan Journalist Dennis Otieno in Maziwa estate Kitale has disclosed disturbing details on how she was forced to witness his death in front of 3three armed gunmen.
Winnie Atieno narrated the tribulation she endured after the gunmen confronted her as she drew water inside the home and forced her into the house where the husband was sitting.
“I was outside the house drawing water when the men riding on a motorcycle alighted and walked to where and ordered me to lead them to the house. Inside the house they warned me and my sister-in-law against screaming as they attacked my husband,” Atieno was quoted by eDaily.
Atieno attempted to block the entry to the room by using a wooden sofa set in an attempt to protect the husband to no avail.
Otieno's wife added that the three demanded a certain photo from the husband before they unleashed an AK47 rifle, shot him in the head and neck at close range as she and the sister-in-law watched.
Atieno, who is also expectant, was slapped several times by the gunmen who combed through the house searching for the photos before they made away with the camera, mobile phones, and TV set.
“I suspect that this is a planned assassination because I could identify one of the men as a close friend to my husband,” Atieno revealed.
Kwanza OCPD Wilfred Mogere stated that investigations had been launched and that police were already pursuing the suspects.
The body of the late journalist was taken to the Kitale District Hospital mortuary.
