For the past years, governors have been at loggerheads at the way the national government should distribute funds to county governments.
While some governors wanted the funds to be distributed equally to all the 47 counties, some governors wanted the allocation to be based on the size and population of counties, where counties with higher population get more funds than the lowly populated counties.
These unending arguments and bickerings were only slowing down the progress towards devolution.
With the newly enacted division of revenue bill 2016, the country is on the right path as far as devolution is concerned.
President Uhuru Kenyatta signed the division of revenue act 2016 into law. This puts the final nail to the issue of allocation of funds to the two levels of governments.
The county governments will now get at least 15% of the last audited revenues.
This will make sure more funds are channelled to the county governments. This proves that Uhuru Kenyatta is committed to ensure devolution works.
