Djibouti has come out to clarify that she voted for Kenya’s Amina Mohammed during the African Union chair elections held last month in Addis Ababa.
This is after claims emerged the horn of Africa country had voted for another candidate despite assuring Kenya of her support.
According to Djibouti ambassador to Kenya Mariam Ahmed Goumaneh, the reports were meant to spoil the relationship between the two countries.
“The Republic of Djibouti would like to clarify that that we share a cordial relationship based on mutual confidence, despite the outcome of the election,” Goumaneh told Nation during an interview.
“The Republic of Djibouti supported the Kenyan candidature,” he added.
Amina lost the election to Chad’s foreign affairs minister Mahamat Faki.
After the polls, reports emerged that Kenya’s neighbors had betrayed the country by voting for rivals.
Uganda and Burundi have stated that they fully supported Amina’s candidature contrary to reports that they voted for Mahamat.
