Mogotio MP Hellen Sambili has asked the Government to start fresh investigations into scandal that hit the National Youth Service (NYS) as the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) continues questioning individuals in the saga.
The legislator has said that the Sh1.8 billion allegedly stolen from the youth project brought a huge blow the country’s young generation, adding that it could have been utilized to help them prepare stable futures.
Speaking at the launch of NYS Youth Empowerment programme in Mogotio town, the lawmaker said that a young generation not empowered can be detrimental to the country's future since youths are a vital resource to Kenya.
“The future of this country depends on the youth and the moment we empower them, we are assured of a sober country in times to come,” she noted.
Her sentiments were seconded by Marakwet East legislator Bowen Kangogo who said that the NYS Scandal culprits must be prosecuted by the law.
“Anyone who defrauded NYS should be brought to book, and should also give back the money,” he said.
