Joel Maina, a Kikuyu town resident has said that the fact that there are no jobs for many youths in Kenya should make youths to start their own self employing job to earn a living.
Maina advised that youths should no longer wait for creation of jobs opportunities for youths as it was promised by Jubilee coalition during their last general elections campaigns.
However, Maina acknowledged the government’s initiatives such as Youth and Uwezo Funds, though according to him, the fundings are not enough for all unemployed youths. A reason he said should make youths to start their own business so long as it is lawful.
“We must not wait forever for the government to give us jobs, we should instead think of any available opportunities for us to make a living,” said Maina.
He was speaking to a group of young men who gathered in Kikuyu to brainstorms about business development and job creation.
Maina spotted a young man who was hawking second hand dolls in the hotel the meeting was held and said, “You see that young man, he has thought of a way of making money instead of waiting to be employed as many youth would do.”
Many suggestions on how to begin a self income generating business among the youths took the better part of the discussion time with starting shooting videos and photo studios, and beauty parlours dominating it.
