Nakuru county First Lady Lucia Kinuthia is now calling on parents who have children living with disabilities not to hide them. Ms Kinuthia cited that such children needed exposure and love like any other child. Speaking to the press in Nakuru yesterday, Mrs Kinuthia noted that most of the children were talented but lacked exposure to understand it. “Many of them are great painters and we have seen some who can really write well. Parents should encourage such children and seek to know their strongest points,” she added. She noted that there is an ongoing door-to-door campaign by the Ministry of Gender seeking to have such kids exposed and given better care. “We want to encourage parents with such kids to integrate them into the society and take them for assessment after which they can join many of the special schools in the county,” she added. Mrs Kinuthia cited that such children should be encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities if they were strong enough. “We have see Henry Wanyoike run marathons and win world titles in spite of his blindness. We have to teach these children that disability is not inability and they can do anything that they purpose to do,” she cited.
