Getembe Zonal Curriculum Support Officer, Reuben Migiro has challenged parents whose children have special needs to ensure those children are not denied their right to access education as their normal peers.

Speaking at Nyansakia 1 DOK Primary School in Sameta Sub-County during a farewell party for Matunwa Zonal Curriculum Support Officer Daniel Orondo who previously served at Sameta/Getanga Zone, Migiro who himself is physically challenged caused laughter when he remarked that if his parents would have locked him in the house he would have missed his current job opportunity as he would have missed accessing education.

"I know there are a number of children who are talented in many ways and their parents decide to lock them in their houses due to the social prestige that they do not want to be associated with such children whom they treat as a bad omen to their families," stated Migiro.

He said it was shameful at this age for informed parents and communities to deny children with special needs a chance to access education simply because they are challenged in one way or the other.
