Musalia Mudavadi has been advised not to sign any pre-election deals with Cord leader Raila Odinga unless the Cord leader supports him for the presidency.
His party’s grassroots leaders and supporters fear that the Amani National Congress (ANC) leader could be short-changed if he joined Cord without a clear strategy.
Speaking at Kakamega Golf Hotel after a consultative meeting, the leaders from Western who included MCAs said Raila should support Mudavadi's presidential bid within ANC. They added that the party will not get into an alliance with any other outfit.
Andrew Amukowa who chairs the Kakamega County ANC chapter said Mudavadi is an experienced leader with a national appeal and he does not need to join Cord or Jubilee for political survival.
"We are aware of their plans to trick Mudavadi and leave him stranded so we ask him to ignore advances being made by Cord and Jubilee because he is a force to reckon with," said Shiluku/Mugai MCA Albert Wetundu as quoted by the Standard.
Both coalitions have been wooing Mudavadi with their members welcoming talks to cement a Mudavadi relationship with either of them.
ANC has already received a boost after former Kakamega assembly Deputy Speaker Cleophas Malala defected to the party from ODM.
Malala is eying the Kakamega Senatorial seat on an ANC ticket.
