Maangi who recently fell out with his Orange Democratic Party is a key ally of Deputy President William Ruto and has hosted him five times since 2013 in the Gusii region.

However, Abuya, a two-term parliamentarian and famous for his roles in the group coined Seven bearded sisters during President Jomo Kenyatta’s regime says Maangi is ‘insignificant ‘ in Gusii politics and should be avoided like a plague.

“I have seen Jubilee relying on Maangi so much as their points man in Gusii. He is insignificant in regional politics and he is doing more harm than good to the government," said Abuya.

"They can only redeem their support by avoiding him like a plague,” he said during the Today's interview.

Asked why he believed that Maangi who had enjoyed successes with Governor Ongwae was not important, Abuya accused the Deputy governor of hijacking the interests of Abagusii for his own interest.

“I have seen him being rebelled even at his Bomachoge backyard. He has been inviting Jubilee bigwigs on his own without consulting with people," he said.

"Many people view him as a political broker who is out to benefit from the Jubilee government. He is not an ideal point man for Jubilee,” he added.

Abuya predicted a routine victory by the opposition (Cord) in the swing votes of Gusii region a defeat which he attributes to Maangi and a few old politicians from the region.

“Cord will carry the day in Gusii region because they are working with strong young men under the leadership of Timothy Bosire and Governor Ongwae," said Abuya.

"Jubilee with this political infant in the name of Maangi and aged politicians such as Jimmy Angwenyi who should be in retirement like me will lose,” he said.
