Nyamira County Commissioner Josephine Onunga has warned the general public and the local administrators against solving defilement and rape cases locally.
Speaking at a public baraza in Kemera ward of Manga Sub county, she said that most victims were not receiving justice by the locals trying to solve the cases locally.
She said that most of the affected families saw the incident as an opportunity to get compensation in form of money, an act she said is meant to protect the culprits.
"Let us not try to solve any matter related to defilement or rape locally, we should rather report the matter immediately it happens so that the victims get justice, why should we see the incident as a source of getting money? we are the people allowing these ills to be committed in our society," she said.
Onunga on the other hand put the chiefs on notice over the rate at which they were responding to eradicate the illicit brew in the county.
She said that they risked losing their jobs if she showed laxity in the fight against the vice, further noting that most affected by the illicit brew to restrain themselves from taking it as it added no value to their lives.
"We don't have a next generation, our sons have resorted to drinking and forgotten about raising their families, I urge the youths to abstain from this drinking routine of the outlawed alcohol and to instead engage in constructive agendas," she concluded.
