Migosi MCA Paul Achayo, speaking on Monday at World Vision Aliwa area after a mob justice incidence said it was illegal for people to mete out justice against suspected criminals.

“We need not to take law into our hands but we should follow the right channels of law in order to prove ones guilt,” noted Achayo.

He said despite increased insecurity in the area, it was important that residents were conscious of other people’s rights and recognising that the law should be followed to the letter.

Achayo noted that the police were in place to enforce the law asking the locals not to use their anger by becoming law enforcers but instead report such cases to the police to deal with.

He noted that every person has a reason to be heard and proven guilty by relevant authorities but not by mobs.

Achayo said by following procedures, mistaken identities would be minimised reducing the deaths of innocent people.

Nominated MCA Farida Salim also called for sanity when dealing with crime cases to avoid unjustified deaths of innocent civilians who may be at the wrong place in the wrong time.
