Jomo Kenyatta Foundation chairman Walter Nyambati could pull a shocker and eventually win the Nyamira gubernatorial seat, a former councillor has said.

Nyambati joined the crowded gubernatorial race early this year and has always maintained that he would defeat his opponents among them the incumbent Governor John Nyagarama.

And on Wednesday in a phone interview, veteran politician Omariba Mokaya and a close confidante of retired president Daniel Moi said Nyambati’s experience in politics favours him to a larger extent.

“If you look at the gubernatorial contest, Nyambati has been in politics for a while and I think he can easily secure a certain voting bloc. He is a candidate who any serious contender should not ignore at all,” he said.

“I rarely here people treating him as a serious candidate but he is likely to win the 2017 polls. He is a bit organised and does his campaigns systematically,” Mokaya added.

According to him, the larger Kitutu voting bloc could be a boost to the one-time Kitutu Masaba MP given the clan-based politics in the county.

“Bogetutu is likely to have Nyambati as the sole contender and that is an advantage to him. If he plays his cards well, he will easily trounce his competitors,” said the former Gesima ward representative.
