Speaking to journalists in his office on Monday, the officer said that some people are using private cars as Matatus, which is putting passengers at risk.

Kiprotich added that private cars do not cover passengers if at any case an accident occurred, adding that most drivers overload the vehicles, putting the road users and other passengers at risk.

“Private vehicles should never be used as Matatus, if they have to, then they should acquire the necessary requirements for a taxi. If they have the operating licenses, they should carry a capacity of four passengers,” said Kiprotich.

“We have information that some people have started operating in this area with the Probox vehicles. I am sending a message to them to stop or else they will face the law,” said the officer.

He went on to say that they have enhanced road safety in the area, and they have ensured that all motorists abide by the traffic rules.

He added that they reported minimum accidents during the last festive season, as compared to other seasons.

The officer urged all motorists to go on cooperating with the traffic officers to ensure everyone is safe.
