Many NASA politicians have crossed the proverbial border into Jubilee. They have decamped fully or pledged to work with Jubilee from their respective political parties. The latter claim to be a different political entity, but one that is working with the government.

Some did it before the elections on August 8th…for example, Alfred Mutua. Others did so after losing miserably under Nasa in their respective regions…eg Isaac Ruto.

Allow me to name a few big names who have decamped…Fred Gumo, Ababu Namwamba, Ken Lusaka, Alfred Mutua, Isaac Ruto, Peter Munya…and recently, Hassan Omar.

You might see it as a natural move for a politician to side with the political party with a majority of members in all houses. But looking closer, one is left to wonder if each politician is changing ideologies and party affiliation due to other reasons.

One such reason is the possibility of promises of plush jobs once Uhuru is sworn in. The roles of ambassadors in foreign countries is usually a good reward. Also, county appointments are another way of rewarding such politicians.

Another reason to switch camps can be promises of work contracts through the various companies the same politicians own. Every politician is known to own several companies through proxies. One such case, which did not pan out, was that of Peter Wanjigi. Rumors were that he had financed the entire Nasa campaign on the hope of getting construction contracts once Nasa won.

The last possible reason for politicians to decamp is the offer of hard cash…Mbeca!

Can it be that these politicians are being offered briefcases or maybe sacks of money to shift allegiances?

If so, then it would not be wrong to quote the age old quote that ‘Every man has his price!’

Mine is KShs. 1 Billion! What is yours?
