Medical services in Machakos are likely to be halted if the county government does not pay doctors their salaries for the months of December 2016, January and February 201.

This comes after the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU)  issued Governor Alfred Mutua a seven-day ultimatum to address the matter before services are grounded in the area.

In a letter dated June 7, 2017, the union claims that the county government has not released salaries for the medical practitioners.

“May 2017 salaries have not been paid to doctors in Machakos County to date yet the return-to-work formula signed between the county government and KMPDU on August 19, 2016, clearly stipulates that salaries will be paid on or before 5th of the following month,” the letter read addressed to Mutua.

The union asked the county leadership to settle the doctors before they down their tools.

“In this regard, we, therefore, ask the county government to ensure that doctors’ salaries, new allowances plus increments and that May 2017 salaries are paid immediately,” concluded KMPDU.

The ultimatum of the union comes after the doctors agreed on a return to work formula.
