The decision by striking doctors to reject a pay increment offer by the government has left the State disappointed.
According to treasury CS, Henry Rotich, the rejection of the 40 per cent salary increment was painful and disappointing.
“We had high hopes that the union's council would accept the offer. We did not expect the opposite. We are however hopeful that we will reach an agreement to avoid making the common mwananchi suffer,” said Rotich while addressing journalists on Friday.
In the new offer, the lowest paid doctor would be going home with Sh196,989 up from the current Sh140,244, a deal the government considered better.
“We considered this to be a really a good offer that the union ought to have accepted but as you know we have to consider the affordability of every salary request or demand, and the challenges that we would have to deal with to meet the demands,” said Rotich.
The doctors has been ongoing for over a month, a situation that has paralyzed services in public hospitals
