Specialized Health Services at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town have been grounded after doctors downed their tools over unpaid allowances.
The move has also affected learning in Moi Universty School of Medicine as the doctors are also lectures.
Addressing the press at the St. Luke's Hospital in Eldoret town on Friday, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) North Rift Branch Secretary General Ismael Ayaibei said the doctors will not go back to work until their allowances are paid fully.
"As doctors working as lecturers we have decided to go on strike since the national government has failed to honor their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) despite KMPDU signing a return to work formula and registering with the Ministry of Health," said Ayaibei.
"We will continue paralyzing medical services at MTRH and learning in Moi University until the government honors our CBA," he added.
The doctors called upon the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health to solve the matter once and for all before things get out of hands.
