Gor Mahia were held to a 2-2 draw with a much-improved Mathare United side, in a top of the table clash at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.
The slum boys were on the scoresheet in the 17th minute with a Francis Omondi close-range free-kick to beat Gor's second keeper Shaban Odhoji.
The hosts celebrations were cut short as the visitors responded almost immediately from a Jacques Tuyisenge penalty, resulting from a foul on the forward to keep the scoreline level.
The second Gor goal followed shortly afterward, as Medie Kagere broke forward, and eased past the defense, although his effort was Blocked by Robert Mboya, Tuyisenge was on hand to snaffle in the rebound to give Gor the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Mathare recovered well to dominate possession in the second half and deservedly equalised with a goal from Clifford Alwanga in the dying minutes of the game to deny Gor the three points.
Gor Mahia now tops the Kenyan Premier League standings with 27 points, three above second-placed Mathare United who has played two matches more.
Gor has now extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches with eight wins and three draws.
On Tuesday. Kogallo will face their fierce rivals AFC leopards at Afraha Stadium.
