Likoni MP hopeful Hamisi Domoko has said he will contest for the seat as an independent candidate after he lost to Mombasa Woman Representative Mishi Mboko during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations.Domoko argued that the exercise was not conducted in a free and fair manner despite assurance from the Party boss Raila Odinga and his Deputy Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.Domoko, who garnered 3,294 votes against Mboko’s 5,935 claimed Mboko and her team had hatched a plot to rig him out of the contest even before the exercise began. He threatened that the rigging is likely to cost Raila as he seeks to rise to power, adding that the move damaged the reputation of the political outfit, which is known for fighting for democracy."The rigging today has damaged the image of ODM Party. I will not accept these results at all because we witnessed all tactics being done to ensure I am defeated,” said Domoko, as quoted the Nation. He also said he will be on the ballot box by all means come August. “I have 24 hours from now and I will think of going as an independent candidate because one thing I am sure about is that I must be on the ballot," he added. On her part, Mboko, who has been a strong supporter of Raila, insisted that she won the polls fairly, adding that the primaries were conducted in credible manner.“I am honored by the results. The race gave me an opportunity to gauge myself ahead of the August 8 polls. I thank God we managed to conduct our nominations here in Likoni peacefully. I know it was not an easy journey but finally, I have seen the results of my seat,” said Mboko, who is also a close ally of Joho.
