Recently, a group of scholars led by renowned academician Prof. Joseph Nyasani asked the don to minimize the speed at which he was opening satellite campus without improving infrastructure at the main campus.

But speaking on Thursday at a conference in the institution, Prof. John Akama said the critics were anti-educational reforms in the country, since the move targeted students who could not access higher education due to the distance factor.

He asked the scholars to desist from meddling in the affairs of the institution, and instead focus on improving the sector in the county by making it accessible to the disadvantaged.

“Sometimes it is very amusing that people oppose moves to make education accessible to people in different parts of the country. The idea has nothing to do with improving infrastructure in the main campus,” said Akama.

“As scholars, we should not be impediments to educational development in the country, but instead join hand to give it a new look. I wonder how people can say that I have not improved the main campus,” he said.

The institution is believed to be the fastest growing in the western region, having set satellite campuses at Kehancha, Isibania, Kisumu, Kitale, Kapenguria and Nairobi.
